CATER highlighted at the IEA2009 in Beijing

The 17th Triennial Congress of the International Ergonomics Association (IEA) was organized by the Chinese Ergonomics Society (CES) in cooperation with the Ergonomics Society of Taiwan (EST) and Hong Kong Ergonomics Society (HKES). About 2000 delegates from around the world attended the Congress, comprising ergonomists, human factors professionals, engineers, computer scientists, cognitive scientists, and product designers. The congress was intended (1) to provide a shared platform for interdisciplinary and intercultural deliberation and exchange among researchers, practitioners and students; and (2) to disseminate information and experiences on the most recent and relevant research, theories and practices in ergonomics and human factors engineering.

The four-day congress comprised keynote speeches, parallel tracks of oral presentations, poster sessions, demonstrations, 99 seconds sessions, exhibition, workshops, and technical committee meetings.

As part of the CATER dissemination activity, a thematic session on “CATER for Mass Customization” was organized by Dr. Halimahtun Khalid (DAMAI), under the Affective Design track. This took place on Wednesday, 12 Aug 09, 10:00 – 12:30p.m. The session was chaired by Professor Martin Helander (NTU). Four papers were presented – two from DAMAI, and one each from NTU and VTEC. About 100 delegates were shown the CATER products, namely: Citarasa System (DAMAI), Middleware for Aggregated Knowledge Representation, Access and Retrieval, MarK (UNIMAS) and Truck Service Configurator (VTEC).

Earlier in the morning, at 9.00 am, Professor Helander delivered a keynote address on “Citarasa Engineering for identifying and evaluating affective product design” which attracted delegates to attend the thematic session.

All papers presented in the Congress are available in the IEA 2009 Congress proceedings.
